Should You Buy FIFA 2009 for Wii?

Thinking about the FIFA 2009 Wii game?  This great soccer game offers a number of improvements and features over past versions, and it looks great, despite ads in the virtual stadiums - an element that’s perhaps a little too realistic.  Here’s what you should know about it before you buy FIFA 2009 or download it-

Should sports games come out once a year?  It seems too often for many people, but the FIFA 2009 Wii game is a real improvement over its predecessors.  Previous incarnations of the FIFA soccer series haven’t fared very well against other interactive soccer games.  However, EA appears to have taken this to heart, making this new game the most realistic, feature rich, and responsive soccer simulation out there.

On the surface level, player physics and the collision system are much improved, and there are over five hundred new animation sequences.  Once you spend a little time playing the game, you’ll notice there’s very tight control.  That can be difficult if you’re using the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions, which require use of the analog sticks to handle the ball and players.  However, the Wii version makes things a lot easier.

There are new game modes, too - including a significantly improved seasons option, allowing you to play four seasons as one player.  Another new game mode allows you to play as a coach as well as a player.

Another thing that has a much bigger role in the FIFA 2009 Wii game than it did in past games is online connectivity.  This adds to the game’s realism.  Unfortunately, some of these online modes are only available for specific game types, including the PC, PS3 and 360 versions, but not for the Wii.  This may disappoint Wii players who love sports games.

On the other hand, the Wii version has some features of its own that the other consoles won’t have.  Graphics are friendlier and more cartoon-like, with arcade-type play and motion sensing controls that make the most of this console’s unique strengths.  It’s more appealing to casual gamers, but might turn off hard core sports game fans with its radically different look.

If you prefer a more standard FIFA soccer game experience, try one of the Classic or GameCube controllers.    Not sure whether you should buy the Wii version or one of the other platforms?  Head to your local game store and give each a spin.  That’ll tell you whether the FIFA 2009 Wii game is for you or if you’ll prefer one of the other systems instead. Tiger Woods 2009 for Nintendo Wii

Offering one to one swing mechanics, simultaneous online play for four players and high quality graphics, this game does seem pretty good at first glance.  After all, the gestural game play and unique feel of the Wii remote makes it well suited to sports titles, and particularly good for golf.

That’s why just about every developer out there has given golf games on the Wii a try, from Tecmo and EA to Nintendo itself.  However, not all of them have been equally successful.  Wii Sports golf is known for ignoring draw and fade, aspects of the game that real golfers will miss, despite its great one to one swing mechanics.  Previous Tiger Woods games had draw and fade controls, but lost that one to one feel, reducing the feeling that you’re really controlling the club.

The good news is that EA has totally redesigned a lot of the Tiger Woods 2009 Wii game, offering a golf game with a much more realistic and polished feel, perfect for the Wii.  You’ll find a brand new interface with pointer ready menus and much better in game graphics.  Once you pick up the remote, you’ll see Tiger swing at the same ratio you do - something EA golf fans have been waiting for.

These improvements aren’t an accident.  EA has changed the studio that handles the Tiger Woods 2009 game, from EA Redwood Shores, which handled previous iterations of the title, to Tiburon, based in Florida, which dedicated a thirty-person team to the Nintendo game.

Development was moved to Tiburon because versions of the game for the PS3 and Xbox 360 are also made there.  However, that doesn’t mean all games will be the same - the Wii title is split off to make sure that this game gets the attention its unique platform requires.

The game was redeveloped, starting with the swing mechanics.  Almost totally overhauled, the mechanics for the Tiger Woods 2009 Wii game offer a real one to one relationship between what’s happening on the screen and what you do with your remote.  Everything happens at the same time, allowing you to get the power percentage you really want.

There are also other additions.  The graphics may be great looking, but that doesn’t mean they’re slow.  They’ve been optimized so that there’s a fluid framerate movement and more vibrant colors, with crisper textures.  The courses really look great!

The draw/fade system still needs a little bit of work, but it’s much better than previous efforts, resulting in one of the most realistic golfing systems around.  Add that to other improvements, and golf gamers will vote this the year’s best golf sim.  Check out the Tiger Woods 2009 Wii game if you love golf.
