Should You Buy FIFA 2009 for Wii?
Thinking about the FIFA 2009 Wii game? This great soccer game offers a number of improvements and features over past versions, and it looks great, despite ads in the virtual stadiums - an element that’s perhaps a little too realistic. Here’s what you should know about it before you buy FIFA 2009 or download it-
Should sports games come out once a year? It seems too often for many people, but the FIFA 2009 Wii game is a real improvement over its predecessors. Previous incarnations of the FIFA soccer series haven’t fared very well against other interactive soccer games. However, EA appears to have taken this to heart, making this new game the most realistic, feature rich, and responsive soccer simulation out there.
On the surface level, player physics and the collision system are much improved, and there are over five hundred new animation sequences. Once you spend a little time playing the game, you’ll notice there’s very tight control. That can be difficult if you’re using the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions, which require use of the analog sticks to handle the ball and players. However, the Wii version makes things a lot easier.
There are new game modes, too - including a significantly improved seasons option, allowing you to play four seasons as one player. Another new game mode allows you to play as a coach as well as a player.
Another thing that has a much bigger role in the FIFA 2009 Wii game than it did in past games is online connectivity. This adds to the game’s realism. Unfortunately, some of these online modes are only available for specific game types, including the PC, PS3 and 360 versions, but not for the Wii. This may disappoint Wii players who love sports games.
On the other hand, the Wii version has some features of its own that the other consoles won’t have. Graphics are friendlier and more cartoon-like, with arcade-type play and motion sensing controls that make the most of this console’s unique strengths. It’s more appealing to casual gamers, but might turn off hard core sports game fans with its radically different look.
If you prefer a more standard FIFA soccer game experience, try one of the Classic or GameCube controllers. Not sure whether you should buy the Wii version or one of the other platforms? Head to your local game store and give each a spin. That’ll tell you whether the FIFA 2009 Wii game is for you or if you’ll prefer one of the other systems instead.
